School's Out For The
Summer ... Time For Summer Camp.
The kids are out of school for the summer and may
soon be headed off to camp. The questions is how to keep
their allergies in control.
If they are off to camp for a week or two there a few
things you can do. Make sure they take their medicine
and inhalers if they use them and that there are written
instructions for the camp to follow. This is very
important if they are asthmatic or have food allergies.
Make several copies, one for the child, one for the
leader and one for the camp clinic.
One of the most effective things you can do is wash the
sheets, pillow cases and blankets they are taking in
either Demite laundry additive or Allerwash detergent a
couple of days before they leave9lso it won't hurt to
wash their tee shirts in it too). This way they
start off with allergen free bedding. If they are using
a sleeping bag I found that it best to spray it down
with ADMS anti-allergen spray inside and out. Make sure
it is completely dry before rolling it up. Outside
of this, there is not much more you can do. You can't
control the air they breath or the places they play.
Summer camp is a place to have fun, play with and meet
new friends and enjoy the great outdoors. Remind them to
stay out of the poison ivy. I got into it one year and
was miserable for the next month.
FYI, they will bring back most of the clothes you
pack as clean as they were when they left. As a Scout
leader and parent I found that they will live in their
swim suit and one or two tee shirts the entire time.
That's just the way it is.

the water. Sometimes the odor is so strong that it makes you want to gag while
taking a shower.
Did you ever think how much of the chlorine you are absorbing into your body,
it is a big sponge after all, and its effect upon your health..
