Q&A
Question: What
can I do for my allergies to my cat?
We have several cats but we know that
cat
allergies can be very serious for many
people. We have quite a few friends that are
allergic to cats but they can still come
over to the house and enjoy a nice evening.
On of the most important things to do is
keep the cat out of the bedroom. This is
your safe room and needs to be as clean as
possible. Keep the door closed.
The first thing we do is keep the furniture
and floors as free of cat hair as possible
and with 3 cats that can be a chore. I use
the furniture brush on the chairs and couch
and the floor brush on the floors. The couch
the cats hang out on the most has a cover
that we take off and wash about one a month.
We also was the little throw rugs they like
to sleep on in the wash with
Demite or
Allerwash every week.
After we clean we spray everything down with
Allersearch ADMS anti-allergen spray. It
does a great job of neutralizing the dander
from the cats. The other thing we have
started doing is putting the ADMS spray on a
rag and wipe down the walls every so often.
You only have to spray thing down with the
ADMS every 4 to 5 weeks. The ADS
anti-allergen spray last up to 3 months.
Just be careful, the tannic acid can
discolor some white fabrics.
Since I'm not brave enough to bathe the cats
I will put the Allerpet for cats on them. It
also does a great job of getting rid of the
cat dander. They don't seem to mind getting
petted even though the rag is a little damp.
Do this about every 2 weeks.
Keep the litter box clean and the area it is
in.
We also run HEPA air cleaners in the
bedrooms. They not only filter out the cat
dander but they also trap all the other
allergens floating around the room. Last but
not least we keep a good filter in the AC.
The AC can spread cat dander all over the
house.
I
know it seems like a lot of work but your
cat is like a family member. Several months
ago we had some friends from NY stop by and
after about 3 hours they saw a cat walk into
the living room. They were amazed because
they are both very allergic to cats but did
not have any problems while they were there.
