Control Dust Mites, Pet Dander, Pollen at Home

Allergies can trash the best of us. Grass and tree pollen irritate millions people every year. Dust mites, mold and pet dander plague us, too. We want to help you make your home an itch and sneeze free zone?

Allergy-proofing your home, using the right allergy control products (getting rid of outdoor and indoor allergens) isn't an easy task, but it's well worth the effort. In the fight against allergies it's the first and most important step in dealing with your allergies. A heck of better than any medication or shots.

During the spring season, pollen and grasses are the biggest problem. Once pollen gets inside your house, it becomes a problem.

A few tips:

1.    As much as you would like to throw open the windows open and let the fresh          air in, don't. That also includes your car windows. If you want to keep a                  window or two open then you should look at using a window screen designed        to stop dust, pollen and mold spores from getting in.

2.    If you have an AC system that pulls outdoor in set the unit to re-circulate air to        keep the pollen outside.

3.    Change your clothes as soon as you get home.

4.    Leave your shoes at the door.

5.    Shower before you go to bed.

6.    Vacuum with a vacuum that uses high-efficiency bags or HEPA filtered                    vacuum  cleaners.

7.    Now if dust mites and pet dander are what triggers your allergies then there          are other things you can and should do.

8.   Do your cleaning early in the day. That way the dust and other airborne                 allergens you stir up have a chance to settle before you go to bed.

9.   Dust with a damp cloth (old tee shirt works great) or one that has been                   sprayed with a special dust catching solution. Several good ones are on the           market.

10. Use high quality filter on your air conditioning and furnace. This is not the               place to be cheap

11. Get rid of "dust collectors" in your bedroom. That includes curtains, extra               pillows, books, upholstered furniture, carpets, etc.

12. Bedrooms are the breeding ground for dust mites and they really love the               bedding. If you can't get rid of it then treat it with an anti-allergen dust mite             sprays and carpet treatments.

13. Wash sheets and pillowcases in very hot water over 130 degrees or use anti         allergen detergents or additives when washing bed sheets and clothes to kill           dust mites. Don't dry sheets outside, since that brings more allergens inside.

14. Cover mattresses, box springs, and pillows with dust mite proof covers.

15. Wash your pets often with anti allergen pet shampoos and use the pet dander       solutions in between shampoos.

16. Use portable air cleaners with HEPA filters in the bedroom.

Some people that have pet allergies mistakenly believe if they just rid of the pet all will be fine and their allergy symptoms will go away. Wrong. it's going to take months to get rid of the dander, even after the animal is gone. Pet dander is light and sticks to everything including walls, ceilings, floors, furniture you and me.

Just remember to be patient and you will eventually get your home just right.

Wishing you the best of health
